DJ loved neon green so it is only fitting that to honor him, his mom picked this bright and vibrant neon green and named it "DJ's Angel Green". DJ is an angel and his heart breaking story is below:
DJ was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma on 2/9/2018 at the age of 9. A pain in his left side turned out to be a tumor in his left chest cavity. DJ was our only child. He was our life, our world. We told DJ from the beginning that we were going to fight this ugly disease as a family. We would be by his side every step of the way. With the help and support of our family, friends, local and surrounding schools holding “PJ’s for DJ” fundraisers we were able to keep this promise to him. No matter how old his supporters were, he touched the lives of so many people and was an inspiration to all.
During his 14 month battle of fighting this ugly disease, being in the hospital for treatment anywhere from 3-6 days at a time every other week, on top of clinic visits, blood and or platelet transfusions, fever spikes, you almost always saw him carrying that beautiful smile. He always told us he just wanted to be a normal kid and be able to go to school again, be around his friends.
DJ was also an avid soccer player (#89) and was always asking his doctors for permission to play. He tired a lot easier on the soccer field and was not able to play for long periods of times, but he always tried to do his part in helping his team get that win.
DJ had many highs and lows during his battle. The chemo / radiation was working, then it wasn’t, then it metastasized to other areas of his body, including his pelvic area and his spine. By this time, DJ was in a wheelchair and unable to walk. We spent many sleepless nights trying everything possible to make his pain go away so he could get a decent night of sleep. The most helpless feeling no parent should have to endure.
On April 20, 2019, at the age of 10, after showing everyone what the definition of a true hero was, DJ lost his battle to this ugly disease surrounded by his loving family and friends. Although it broke our hearts to have to say goodbye to our precious son, our only child, our life, our world, we know he is now pain free. We will continue to do everything we possibly can to keep his memory alive always and forever.
