“Sunflower Kisses” a bright, beautiful yellow named in honor of Sophia Sanchez. Her story is below.
Sophia (Sophi, Soph) Sanchez … Sophi is the youngest of 5 children, Sophi was a true momma’s girl from the day she was born; she had the spunky, spitfire, sassy most loving personality anyone could have. She loved life and lived to the fullest, she loved to be active, playing every sport she could. July 7, 2017 Sophi’s world as well as her family’s world came crashing down, she was diagnosed with Avelar Rhabdomyosarcoma, she gave it her all, her Sophi fight went through chemo and radiation, in 2018 she was declared in remission. Everyone was so incredibly happy; summer had approached, and she was able to enjoy her childhood that summer. March of 2019 our lives were rocked again as there were new spots in her lungs that were concerning, surgery removed the bulk of the spots in her lungs and we were watching her closely. October 29, 2019 Sophia’s cancer returned with a vengeance, we returned to the “cancer battlefield” ready to fight to beat the beast again. We started immunotherapy immediately, within days she had the worst allergic reaction anyone could have, we had to stop and switch our protocols to chemotherapy again. September 2020 Sophi’s tumors were still present and started growing, we made the ultimate life changing decision to remove her bladder and do proton radiation to the spots in her chest. Sophi ran into every complication that anyone could have, we spent our time in the hospital, coming home for 5 days in October and for Thanksgiving weekend in November. During that time Sophi fought, she gave it her all, December 9th we were given the news no parent or patient fighting cancer wants to hear, there is nothing more we can do for you. Sophi was able to go home and spend her final days with her beloved pets and family. The final days that she spent on this earth, were encouraging others who are fighting to keep fighting, that just because she lost her battle, she didn’t want them to give up on theirs. Sophi had the biggest love for life and had so much empathy for those battling. She was the light of her family’s life, Sunflowers were her favorite flower, visiting sunflower fields with her sisters and mom were some of her favorite moments. Sunflower Kisses is the way we all remember Sophi, her infectious smile, her loving spirit, the most infectious giggle and fight with all her might.
